The new town planning of the area of Novoli in Florence, provides the whole reconversion of the old industrial area with new reassignments (i.e. residential buildings, offices, the new Law Courts, new University offices, urban public park). The planning has involved many world town-planners. The Public Administration of the Commune of Florence, intends to keep the building of the former Thermal Power Station alive; a big building in order to leave a strong witness of the industrial architectural example that has characterised the area for a long period. The volumes of the building are remarkable: 20 x 20 on plant and with a height of 31,20 m with the factory chimney reaching up 54 m. It is a reinforced concrete structure dated back to the 30s without the necessary siesmic requirements. This is the purpose of the project: structural strengthening works in order to confer the whole building all the necessary siesmic requirements.
